Episode 16 – Date Rape Your Game Boy (w/ Jake Richmond)

May 7, 2011 § 5 Comments

First off, no. Don’t ever date rape. That shit is fucked up. This week we’re joined by game designer, artist, webcomic mogul and all around cool guy Jake Richmond! He is a member of Celstyle, and the maker of Panty Explosion (with the newest edition of it now available), G X B (The RPG dating sim), and Tulip Academy (Think Utena if it was actually dudes instead of girls that LOOKED like dudes that turned into cars and drove off into the sun or some shit).  Honestly, the names might be a little distracting, I know, but if you take a peek at the games I *KNOW* you’ll like them.

Oh, and they’re versatile too. I’ll explain below

Genre’s you can *EASILY* play Panty Explosion Perfect in :

  • X-Men
  • Warhammer 40k
  • Naruto
  • Legend Of The Five Rings (Hell, me and Robert do)
  • Doctor Who
  • Battlefield 1942
  • Dig Dug! (Ok, that one is a lie…)
  • Valkyrie Profile (I thought of this last night, and was QUITE pleased with myself)

Needless to say, this is just a HANDFUL of the amazing things that just ONE of his games can do. Imagine what YOU can think of. As always, links lie below the cut!

For those with iDevices or just wish to download it directly… 16 – Date Rape Your Game Boy (w/ Jake Richmond)

Celstyle, a small group of small press game designers with great ideas can be found : Here!

Jake’s webcomic, Modern Medusa, can be found : Here! (Warning, adorable ahead!) You can read it from the beginning : Here Instead!

I just want to thank Jake for being such a good sport and being an all around cool guy. I just hope we get to meet him in person at PAX. Who knows, maybe we’ll throw down a game of PEP while we’re there?

  • […] to talk about the new Cel*Style games and such, but in the meantime you can listen to him on the Found in the Alley podcast. Jake and the podcast hosts are really entertaining, and I got really inspired listening to him […]

  • Matt P. says:

Really great episode, guys. I found it through Atarashi Games’ site where I’d recently ordered a copy of Panty Explosion Perfect and it was really cool to hear about what went into the game and, if possible, made me look forward to the book getting here even more.

    • Having looked through the book, you are going to be VERY happy with that purchase. Honestly, I can’t wait to get my hands on my copy too. God willing, I’ll get it on Memorial Day Weekend as me and Robert do our massive dueling podcast with the Ace Of Geeks crew. =D

  • Gerald says:

Well, I just purchased a copy of Panty Explosion Perfect. I like the sound of the mechanics and thanks to NetFlix I also know the first game I want to run using it: Red Dwarf. Well, it’ll be based on Red Dwarf. Odds are it won’t be a dedicated conversion. More a feel of the show than a dead-on take of the series. I’m hoping it’ll be a good concept for quick one-night games.

    • Wow, that’s actually a pretty awesome idea! That show went everywhere, and there’s no reason PEP wouldn’t make a game set in that series amazing! I do hope you’ll come back and tell us how it went. I’m genuinely curious about it…
